Universal Music Group (UMG) has reintroduced a legendary name in music, announcing the rebranding of Universal Music Group Nashville to Music Corporation of America (MCA). Under the leadership of President and CEO Mike Harris and Chief Creative Officer Dave Cobb, the relaunch signals a bold vision for the future of Nashville’s music scene.
The revival of the MCA name honors Nashville’s pivotal role in global music innovation. With a renewed focus on country music’s legacy and continued global relevance, MCA commits to delivering world-class services for its star-studded roster, which includes Carrie Underwood, Chris Stapleton, George Strait, Reba McEntire, Luke Bryan, and more.
UMG remains the industry leader in country music with a 39.4% market share, and MCA now emerges as the top overall label group with 16.2%, according to Luminate.
MCA will oversee and support frontline labels like Mercury Nashville, EMI Nashville, Capitol Nashville, and MCA Nashville, along with Dave Cobb’s newly launched Lucille Records. Artists will also benefit from the broader support of Republic Collective and UMG’s global network, anchored by MCA’s Nashville headquarters.
The executive team continues to grow, with Katie McCartney appointed EVP/General Manager and Tom LaScola as Head of Artist and Audience Strategy. A new initiative to nurture local songwriting talent has also been introduced, with Jessie Jo Dillon named the first-ever Song Buddy—a strategic role focused on supporting Nashville’s songwriting community.
“With country music’s growing cultural influence, it’s vital we celebrate and invest in Nashville’s role in shaping American music,” said Harris. “Our teams will operate with creative freedom and a shared drive for excellence.”
“I want to let the art lead,” added Cobb. “We’re here to serve the artists, the songwriters, the community, and the fans. That’s our north star.”
As MCA looks to the future, the company will continue investing in ventures that push boundaries in artist development, while championing the entrepreneurial spirit and creative autonomy of each label. The move reaffirms MCA’s commitment to Nashville as a dynamic hub for artistic innovation.
